Tensions are High

U.S. State Department’s Recommendations on Turkiye

  According to U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, the U.S. should go ahead and complete the sale of the F-16 fighter jets to Turkiye. The Turks had requested to buy 40 of the latest F-16 block and 80 of the updated F-16 jets and had already paid 1.4 billion for the purchase of the F-35. If the sale is not completed the U.S. would be required to pay back the monies. It makes sense and would be the logical thing to do since Turkiye was taken out to the partnership of the Joint Strike Force. It also it is the same company that produces the F-35 and the F-16. This would be beneficial to the Turks; not only do they take their money back from the F-35 deal, but also the F-16 jets would be assembled in Turkiye as before. What this all means is that it would take approximately three years for the F-16 jets to become part of the Turkish Air Force. Why so long? Because it would take that much time for the deal to first be cleared through congress and then to build the jets. Wha...
